Welcome to my personal paradise, Hatteras Island, NC.
A little village on the island called Avon is where my family loves to vacation.
This modest 1960’s, 3 bedroom oceanfront beach cottage, called Aquarias, is a favorite rental home of ours.
It is quaint and cozy and feels like home.
Three doors down is this GORGEOUS cedar shake “cottage” with views of the Atlantic sunrises out front and the Sound sunsets out back.
LOVE!
Ok, back to reality now…
Each year we visit Aquarias I salivate at the possibilities of this home if I could get my hands on it!
Imagine these pine paneled walls white washed, new flooring in bamboo, and large sea grass rugs!
(That’s my husband and my oldest daughter….do teens EVER let go of their Itouch?)
Back to redecorating… Let’s reface the cabinets, and replace the appliances with stainless, and a watery sea glass tile backsplash like shown here would be gorgeous! .
New granite countertops and glass hurricane lanterns for lighting, glass floats, all new wall décor would be a nice addition.
Paneling, paneling, and more paneling…..
but with views like this,
I’ll put my decorating dreams on hold,
take in a deep sea salty breath…
and simply relax.

I so agree…, it would look awesome white washed! But…, on vacation you don’t want to do remodeling even if only in you mind, haha!
Kim @ Sand and Sisal says
Oh Maya, but I do!!! Sad isn’t it? I’ve wondered what would happen if I just painted it!! Maybe they’d arrest me? I just want them to sell the house to me!!!

Guess what? I live in the OBX and I know exactly where that cottage is! What a small world!

Nancy- Small world indeed! Angelfish Dr., a little slice of Heaven on Earth. 🙂

Lovely Paradise inside-out. You may wonder if teens ever let go of their itouch but I wonder whether teens ever smile when around adults. I will never know since I am not a mother myself. Now back to the remodeling. Since I am an eternal admirer of wood, brick and the relative colors I would never support turning the natural color into white. But then again your taste and opinion is what counts since it will be your environment. Have a lovely rest of the week Kim.

We used to have a cottage up by the Avalon Fishing Pier but moved to CA so we had to sell it. Moved back to NC when I was a teen and wish we had kept it. Oceanfront property first purchased in the early 60s and it’s survived many storms! It would be so much fun to update it. It’s been years since we spent any length of time at OBX though and I miss it! Great memories!

I had a lot of fun putting it together so maybe you would like to check it out if you have a spare minute.

Oh my gosh, I do the same thing every time we stay in a beach house. We have visited the Outer Banks but normally Holden Beach, NC. It’s so fun to dream about what to do to the beach houses. 🙂

Omg! My husband and I stayed in that house 18 years ago on our honeymoon! Thanks for the pin. It brought back some great memories!

You should offer your services to the homeowner for a “face lift” and get a forever discount in staying there, it would definitely boost their income, too!
