Decorating for Christmas has been extra fun this year in the family room. We have hardwood flooring now instead of carpet, two new custom builtin bookcases and a new fireplace surround and mantel. I felt like I was decorating a brand new home! The kids begged me to not do a coastal Christmas theme downstairs (they are sick of starfish, ha!). I asked what they wanted instead and they said red and white! So come take a bright and cheery tour of our winterberry red, white and blue Christmas family room!
I kept the same blue and white pillows from Thanksgiving and added some festive red accessories throughout the room.
Winterberry, cranberries, and holly berries are everywhere! It’s a very berry merry Christmas!
I envy all my friends from up north who have white paper birch growing naturally in their area. We have river birch which is just as papery but not as white and pretty. These little logs are from HomeGoods.
Decorating the new wood beam mantel was fun! I used fresh greenery which looks lovely but probably isn’t the smartest idea. It’s prickly and dry but still looks nice. I made a frosted pinecone garland from my DIY bleached pinecone collection. The pinecone garland was so easy to make and look so sparkly and snowy in person. And best of all it was free!
More bleached pinecones adorn the Christmas tree along with little gold horns, big white snowflakes, berry picks, red balls and ribbon.
Hold up! Get ready for a little switcheroo! We needed more seating for entertaining so I moved the Christmas tree across the room and brought in a chair. Moving the tree was easy with my DIY Mobile Christmas Tree Stand. I wish I had made that stand years ago!
Having additional seating in this room is nice. I pulled this chair from my bedroom but I need to be on the hunt for a few comfy chairs in the new year. Doesn’t this seagrass woven chair remind you of Santa’s chair? It is so cozy sitting next to the fire.
Thanks for taking a little tour of our winterberry red, white and blue Christmas family room!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Kim! Your family room is absolutely beautiful! I’m envious of the white birch logs – I have been looking for those forever! I found the perfect copper buckets for either side of our fireplace and am dying to put some birch logs in them. Still looking!

Thank you Kristin! I picked mine up at HomeGoods early this fall and then cut them into several logs. They get bought up pretty quickly I’ve noticed. Have a merry Christmas!

So, this is a coastal Christmas room? Can’t really tell. Looks like a traditional Christmas to me.
Kim @ Sand & Sisal says
Hi Carol. No, it’s not coastal at all. I normally do a whole coastal theme in the familyroom (since I’m a coastal blogger) but like I said, my kids asked for traditional. The coastal tree is in our master bedroom. Have a lovely week! ~ KIM

Your family room tour is awesome. Love the red, white and aqua theme. I’ve been looking for white birch logs also. When I lived in Ohio, I had a birch tree right in my front yard. Home Goods in Florida have the logs in containers all made up. Over priced though! Might be able to snatch one after Christmas sales. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Xo

Hi! Nancie! The birch logs came in a set of 2 and I used my saw to cut them into several pieces. They were overpriced but I had a gift card to use 😉 (I love gift cards!). Thank you for the sweet comment! Wishing you a very merry Christmas too! ~KIM
