Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Besides enjoying the banquet of yummy food, it’s a time when our family all comes together to celebrate. The weather is usually gorgeous here every year for Thanksgiving and we all enjoy taking a family stroll along the beach or playing a game of football in the sand and then heading inside to feast! The day is a relaxed and casual one.
Many people probably do not realize that the first Thanksgiving was a coastal Thanksgiving in 1621 in Plymouth, MA. The 1st Thanksgiving menu consisted of 5 deer given to the Pilgrims as a gift from the Native Americans, seafood like lobsters, clams, oysters, scallops and muscles which were plentiful along the shoreline and local veggies like onions, beans, cabbage, beans, lettuce, corn porridge. So today in honor of that 1st celebration of thanks, I’m happy to share my Casual Coastal Thanksgiving Tablescape with you!
The last coastal Thanksgiving tablescape 2 years ago was filled with white pumpkins, hydrangeas, burlap and aqua. This year a relaxed denim blue and white theme sounded good.
I paired my plain white dishes with blue and white striped tea towels in place of napkins and of course, my favorite, little white baby boo pumpkins.
I fully believe that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a gorgeous tablesetting. Cobalt blue bottles, which I bought at the dollar store years ago, serve as candle holders. The blue floral placemats were a gift from my sister 20 years ago. And the sparkling crystal goblets were a fab find from a thrift store. I paid only $1.85 a glass!
To brighten up the coastal tablescape, I walked the backyard and took clippings from my forsythia bushes. Their beautiful yellow and green leaves with bits of burgundy streaks add just the right amount of sunny cheerful color.
A soup tureen is piled high with more white baby boo pumpkins and yellow crookneck gourds, leaves, and scallop and clam shells from the beach.
I hope you enjoyed my casual coastal Thanksgiving tablescape!
