New Year, New Pantry!

Before/After· Christmas/New Years· organization

Organization

You have to admit, that the process of getting organized is not always a pretty one.

Usually, you have to get your hands (or house) messy to create something beautiful.

I love organization.

The peace, order, and tranquility it produces makes me happy.

There’s one problem though…

I’m not organized.

(shhhhhh)

Don’t get me wrong.

Capability is not in question.

I’m just not.

I suppose because it takes initial effort.

I couldn’t have someone come in and organize for me either because, well,

 I’m a control freak.

Life has been pretty chaotic in our home this past year,

overwhelmingly chaotic in fact.

But this is a new year now,

so I promised myself to channel some Martha mojo

and get my house in order,

one project at a time.

Today it’s the pantry.

Here’s the way it was, not terrible, but that pile on the floor has been building!

messy pantry

Now to empty it.

The kids came home from school horrified and gasped,

“OMG! WE’RE HOARDERS!!!!!”

Disaster zone

Shall we label this “Disaster Zone”?

We had to order pizza for dinner and yes,

my Christmas Tree is still up.

The pantry looks so empty and clean,

but it was GROSS!

Empty pantry

The pantry needed some color.

I chose Urban Putty by Sherwin Williams, for the walls and Black semi-gloss for the shelves.

Urban Putty does a nice job at hiding exploded ketchup spatters on the wall and ceiling.

Are you ready for the reveal?

Ta-da!!!!!

Organized pantry

I chose to leave the underside white for light reflection.

An overhead light in the pantry would be a nice addition some time.

All the plastic containers are from Costco.

We buy A LOT in bulk at Costco or Sam’s.

What??

Doesn’t every family buy weekly 5 pound bags of chocolate chips???

organized pantry3

My kids walked in today and said, “Now THIS is nice!”

Ahhh,

order

peace

   tranquility

   happiness.

Are you organizing something?

I’d love to hear about it!

Leave a comment and tell me what organizing projects you have planned for this year!

Kim

Thanks Ladies! To answer Debra’s question- all the stuff on the floor found either a nice little home in the trash or elsewhere in the house. It’s amazing how much room you have when you purge and organize!

LOVE this, Kim. I’m right there with ya…a control freak that craves organozation. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now, I ask you…how many times have you opened that pantry just to stare at it in all its labeled glory?? Or maybe I just do that. ;o)

Oh yeah & if you want to jump on the declutter gang, there will be guidelines and linky for folks to join in on my mission. Here’s my last post about it

That’s quite a transformation! I love the chalk board labels on the plastic containers. I’m having Tidy Up Tuesdays on my blog this year because I thought if I didn’t force myself to share weekly organizing progress & goals, I’d just fall into my old routines and stay unorganized. Found you @ Show & Tell Saturday.

Your pantry looks great! I have soooo many organizing projects planned for this year… We moved into our first house in May 2010 and we still don’t have very much furniture so we have rooms with stuff just everywhere on the floor with nowhere to go! My goal is to get furniture so I can get everything organized the way it should be! I also need to get my pantry organized like yours! =]

OMG this is the word I love and hate most. I love to live in an organized world but I hate the process. Plus I have a darling husband who preaches “there must be order”. I can’t complain! He participates in the I would say more than his fair share but still….the process! Have a lovely day Kim.

Hi, I found your pantry on Pinterest! I love the combination you used of plastic containers and baskets. Did you use chalkboard contact paper on the plastic? With a chalk marker? That’s what I’d like to use.
Also, where did you get those baskets? They seem nicely square and sturdy.

Love you pantry. I love to organize, its fun for me. An you can do it for a very small amount or a large. if you don’t have a lot of money then take cereal boxes cut them down to fit the height of you drews you don’t have to do any thing else just put like item together.

I am so jealous of all your pantry glory. It may not be a walk in, but it’s nice and wide so you can see everything at a glance and now that you have everything organized so well, I bet you’ll never have to search for something again.

I have just bought an old house with no pantry to speak of, so something like this really peaks my envy. I hope to have a cabinet/cupboard pantry built in an empty corner before I move in, but it would never be as nice and large as this. Even so, I hope to use your wonderful pantry as an inspiration for my own.

    Thanks!

    • Kim Wilson says

      June 30, 2014 at 9:07 am

      Hi London!
Our past 2 homes didn’t have pantries either so when we found this house (which was a neglected foreclosure) I squealed with delight at the sight of the pantry. I like that you are thinking creatively on how to best use & organize your space. I bet your corner pantry idea will be beautiful!
      Have a great week!
      KIM
